Used Lawn Tractors

Lawn aerators come in many different sizes and shapes. Price on lawn aerators range from to 00. What aerators are the best for their cost? When do you know if it is better to buy vs rent an aeration machine? Below we have assessed the benefits of several different types of aerators and their effectiveness.

Used Lawn Tractors

Lawn Aerator Shoes- (Price -) Effectiveness (2 stars out of 5) Durability (1 of 5) Price Cost (4 of 5) Ease of use (4 of 5)

We give lawn Aerator shoes a 2.5 star rating overall. It is a great idea but the cheaper lawn aeration shoe models break easily. The shoes that actually work, need to be used quite regularly because the holes are so small they only last for about two weeks.

Liquid Lawn Aerator- (-50) Effectiveness (2.5 stars out of 5) Durability (2 of 5) Price Cost (3 of 5) Ease of use (4 of 5)

Overall Liquid Lawn Aeration has a 3 star rating. On a per application basis it is actually quite expensive. It can break up hard soils but the catch is that it works best when used in conjunction with mechanical lawn aeration. It should be applied in the fall or in the spring before the lawn gets to hard to aerate.

Hand Aerator- (-50) Effectiveness (2 stars out of 5) Durability (3 of 5) Price Cost (4 of 5) Ease of use (3 of 5)

Hand Aerators works great on small yards and parking strips. It is a very economical way to go if your lawn is small than 500 sq feet. But it is difficult to use once your lawn gets hard and it is time consuming. We suggest and aerator with only two coring spikes. We have had the best luck using this model. You can also use it on small patches of your lawn that get extra hard or when reseeding small areas.

Machine Core Aerator- (-110) Effectiveness (5 stars out of 5) Durability (4 of 5) Price Cost (2 of 5) Ease of use (2 of 5)

Using a mechanical core aerator on your lawn is the quickest way to see visible results. The down side is that you need to rent it and it is more expensive than aeration shoes or a hand aerator. These machine are very heavy they can do a great job. Many people can also aerate their lawn 2 or 3 times for better penetration and better results. Rental rates range from to 0. Surprisingly, you can often find a local service willing to do it for the same price. The advantage of renting is you can do your neighbor's lawn at the same time and split the cost.

Tow behind Lawn aerators are rated nearly identical to the mechanical ones. If you already own a riding mower you can get a lawn aerator attachment for 200-300 dollar. It works great on large lawns , but it is difficult to get corners and close to trees.

Nelson 1865 Raintrain Traveling Sprinkler Specifications

While an automatic sprinkling system certainly ensures greener grass and nurtured flowerbeds during the sweltering days of summer, not every household comes equipped with such a system and they can be downright expensive to install. Historically, the alternative to the built-in sprinkler system has involved setting up a hose and sprinkler and then manually relocating the water source to several strategic locations every thirty minutes for several hours. Despite all the detail and time this manual system receives, the sprinkler never quite makes contact with certain patches. Likewise, swamping also occurs at times because homeowners generally have more important things to worry about than whether it is time to switch the sprinkler. Luckily, the folks at LR Nelson are employed to worry about finding comprehensive watering methods for busy homeowners who don't have the means, time, or desire to dig up the yard to install and intricate system of sprinkler pipes. Responsible for a bevy of creative lawn care solutions, the Peoria, Illinois outfit introduce this ingenious Raintrain traveling sprinkler.

With a rustproof cast iron construction, the sprinkler waters up to 13, 500 square feet, though covering a lesser area of 11,9000 square feet ensures more effective performance. The sprinkler arms adjust for varied spray patterns and arcs, throwing water from 15 to 56 feet. The sprinkler waters as it travels along a hose on a preset route, much like an electric model train, except with a hose as the rails. To water, the homeowner lays out the hose as desired, taking care to avoid dramatic corners or turnabouts that may result in hose kinks or a derailed sprinkler. A front wheel runs on the hose with the two traction-ready rear wheels bestride. The hose connects to the posterior of the sprinkler. For the best results, LR Nelson recommends a 5/8-inch hose, though a 1/2-inch hose may suffice, up to 200 feet in length. For sprinkling termination, the user places a shut-off ramp on the hose to lift the sprinkler off its "rails," while simultaneous stopping operation. The shut-off ramp should be installed with at least five feet of hose between it and the spigot. The traveling sprinkler operates at two motor speeds, high and low. On high power, the sprinkler travels approximately 37 feet per hour, with a 1/4-inch water application. On low power, the sprinkler moves at a 21 feet per hour rate with a 1/2-inch water application. The simple installation requires no tools. The sprinkler weighs 18.1 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling
